Tracking Trash 3-22-17
This week we had to do presentations on a book of our choice of Tracking Trash or How Sugar Changed the World. I chose Tracking Trash and I thought that I did a good job on the presentation and we did. Now I am going to tell you about that other non-fiction book How Sugar Changed the World. There were four parts to this book and in part one the title was From Magic to Spice and it turns out that a war was started by sugar and how people weren’t getting enough of it. People were enslaved because people had to work in the feels to grind sugar. Samaritans were the first people to use sugar cane and that first try university was Juni Shopur, they were the first people in the university to figure out sugar. The second chapter was titled Hell, yes I know Hell. I could understand why this is the title because in the chapter it takes about slavery. The third chapter was titled Freedom. This chapter was so much better than the last one because it less violent. The last chapter is called back to our stories which is about how all of this started. That is my reflection.
Huntington Library Reflection 3-15-17
Today I went to the Huntington Library and it was amazing there were so many art pieces there like, Thomas Gainsborough’s Blue Boy, I really like that painting because he was so serious and he reminded me of my brother when he was little and only wore blue. Now my brother doesn't do that anymore. In the room where Blue Boy was there were other paintings too but the two paintings that caught my attention was Blue Boy and Pinkie by Thomas Lawrence. These two paintings really caught my eye.Now I will be talking about the other painting I enjoyed Pinkie. I hope you enjoy. I also saw the Pinkie painting by Thomas Lawrence too and I really liked this painting too because I really like how the girl in the painting is wearing pink and how the artist, Thomas Lawrence, used the color contrast in the painting as well. Those are the two paintings that really stood out to me and I really encourage others to come to the Huntington Library too and enjoy this wonderful experience. I really loved this field trip and I really want to come back here again.
Harrison Bergerson 3-8-17
Lissette Cortez #6 Thursday, March 9, 2017 Mrs. Todesco ELA 7
The Science Fiction, Harrison Bergeron, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. takes place in United States during the year 2081of April. It tells the story of Harrison Bergeron, a fourteen year old boy who wants to take down the government in order for all of the people handicapped to be their normal selves. He must fight against Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General’s Leader in order to achieve this goal. First, you will be introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Bergeron who lost their child to the H.G. Mrs. Bergeron or Hazel is really dumb and the H.G. makes sure that everyone is equal, so Mr. Bergeron or George is taller than Hazel and is smarter than her too. Every time that George is thinking of something a loud noise plays on his transmitter that he is required to wear by law. Then, everyone must be equal to everyone in the Untied States. If you were taller than someone you were required to put weight on your neck to make you slouch a little so you would be the same hight. If you were smarter than someone then you would have to had a transmitter on your ears to interrupt you thought just like George does. If you an amazing voice or a talent for something like piano you would have to sing horribly or play the piano horribly too. After that, Harrison Bergeron escaped out of jail and went to go find out where is Diana Moon Glampers. When Harrison finally found the tv station he stood infant of the camera said that he was the people’s new emperor. There were people infant of him in fear like they were about to die, Harrison said that the first person to stand is his new empires and a ballerina stood. When she stood Harrison took off all of his Handicapped items that the H.G. gave him to make him equal to everybody else. Since he had so many things on him it took him a while to get everything off of him. Next, when Harrison took off everything that the H.G. gave him he took off his new empires’ items and they went where ever they wanted to go. They were so happy and they fell instantly in love with each other. It was so romantic to read about. Finally, Diana Moon Glampers shows up right when Harrison and his new empires was about to kiss and pull out something unbelievable. Diana Moon Glampers pulled out a….SHOT GUN!and shot both of them dead. When I was reading with the class and this was read out loud the whole room was silent. No one moved or spoke for a few seconds because of the huge shock. All of this was on television and almost everyone was watching the entire thing happen. As the story ends, George came back from the kitchen with a bottle of beer to celebrate that his son came out of jail, but little did he know that his son was just shot. Remember how I told you that Hazel was really dumb well this is how dumb she is. She just saw he only son get shot on tv and when George comes back with the beer he asked he what happened because she was crying and Hazel replied back and said that she doesn't remember. On the inside of me my brain was saying, “How can she forget that he only son got shot and say that she doesn't remember!!!”. That is my summary of the book Harrison Bergeron.
Greek Mythology

Greek Mythology
The Greek view is both the same and different from our modern view. The views are the same because on both maps there is Europe. Additionally, the views were similar because they both have oceans on the maps too. However, the Greek view is not the same as the contemporary view because the Greeks believed that the word was flat, but it is really round like a circle. The Greeks also thought that there were only a few continents but there are so many more. Therefore, even though the Greek's view is different from our modern view it is still very important to know what the knew or believed

Zebra on the Loose
This week the buzz on everyone’s mind is “Where did this zebra come from and who is responsible for this?”, I meet with some people who encountered the zebra incident to talk with them. The first person I meet with was a twelve year old kid named Nick Ammons and he said, “I was cleaning the dishes at my parents’ restaurant. 7th Street Diner, -I heliport there after school- when I looked out the back window above the sink and thought I saw a zebra casually walk through the parking lot. I thought, there’s no way I just saw a zebra! I ran out the back door. I thought that my friends would never believe this so I pulled my phone out of my back pocket and started to video tape this and put it on YouTube.” When I meet with him and he told me that he “pulled out his phone out of his pocket and started to video tape it and put it on YouTube.” I thought, “What would we do without technology.”
The Next person I met with was named George Dowling who owns the zebra, and the zebra’s real name is ZigZag. I asked him how did the ZigZag escape from the yard he said, “I thought that I latched the door when I went to feed ZigZag, but I guess I unlatched it when I bent over to poor out water in his bowl. I think that is how he got out of the gate.” Then I asked him why do you have a zebra for a pet anyways I thought it was illegal in Florida. Then he was getting angry so I stopped asking him questions and moved on to the next person.
The next person I interviewed was named Jessica Tradewell and when I talked to her she was little shaken up because ZigZag jumped right in front of her car. When she was trying to explain to me what happened she said, “I called 911 because I was so scared, I thought that I killed him because I hit him so hard. I heard an awful THUMP sound and when I got out of the car I saw the zebra there laying on the floor. I was surprised to see that there was no blood there because I think I hit him pretty hard. Right now I just hope that he is OK!”
The last person I talked to was named Dr. Mark Hardt and he was the doctor that helped ZigZag. I asked him the basic questions like is ZigZag OK, how is he doing and, how long until he is better. “He’s stable. Finally sleeping well. I was surprised to see him because there aren’t a lot of zebras around here. ZigZag has a broken hind leg, and a internal bruising, but other than that he is going to be fin in a few more weeks.” That’s all for this weeks new see you next time of Channel 20 News with Lissette Cortez.
The First Day
The short story, The First Day by Edward P. Jones takes place in New Jersey during September. It tells the story of a young girl, a new kindergarten student who wants to be accepted into Seaton Elementary School. The little girl's mom wants her to go to Seaton Elementary, a private school for a better education. They didn't fight against the woman and they went to the other school and meet a lady to register them to that school. After that, the lady said to fill out one of the form on the table and mamma asked her if she could help her with the writing because she does not know who to read or write, and that is why she wants a better education for her daughter. Next, the lady that was helping her felt even better about herself because she knew how to read and write and mamma didn't know how to do those thing. Finally, at the end of the story mamma and the lady that was helping them get registered for the new school mamma gave the little girl a face of embarrassment. As the story ends, the little girl ended up going to Walker-Jones as their new school.
